The High Rise Community

The High Rises are two residential buildings that join together to create one community. George Jameson Hall and High Rise 5 are first-year halls on the North Campus of Cornell University. Opening their doors in 1974, the High Rises are a close-knit community with proud traditions.

We're looking forward to Move-in and the start of the new academic year.  To help make the Move-in process go well for you, we need your help with two things.

First, if you have not submitted your photo yet for your Cornell ID, it's super easy and only takes two minutes. What's stopping you? Don't wait, the form is closing at noon August 9. Thought you already submitted a photo? Please check your to do list to confirm. Please reach out to the Registrar's Office if you think there's an error, have, or need assistance submitting your photo. It's very important to complete this task before your arrival for a smooth check-in. Your Cornell ID is not only used for access into your residential hall, it's also a bus pass, used to access Dining halls, fitness centers, libraries, and academic buildings.

Second, if you have not secured a Move-in time-slot, please do so through the Housing Portal. You can also change your timeslot if your Move-in plans have changed. We use the timeslot information to help with traffic planning, ensuring we have enough staff support, and for other planning to make sure you have the best Move-in experience possible.

Thanks for helping us make your Move-in as positive one.

Events & Activities

Attend programs created by High Rise resident advisors and faculty fellows. Past programs include: a trip to the MET in NYC, Midnight Breakfast, Ice Cream Exploration, and apple picking.

Environment

Live in a close-knit community with other first-year students at Cornell. The multitude of lounges give room for residents to study together and have fun. The suite arrangement helps make the large Cornell campus feel a little bit smaller.

Inclusion

Resident advisors and supporting staff facilitate inclusion for all regardless of social identity. This priority of inclusion is directly connected to the vision Cornell was originally founded on of "any person... any study".
